Where There is Faith

Sometimes I wish I had a crystal ball and could see how things are going to turn out in the future. I’d like to live today being able to see that everything will be okay for me and those I love in the future. While this sounds nice, it would be walking by sight which is the opposite of what it means to live by faith.

Faith still believes that God’s love is real when the worst happens. Faith
trusts in God’s strength when feeling none. This is the faith of people in the Bible like Abraham, and it can be ours as well when we choose to believe God one moment, one hour, and one day at a time.

Lately I’ve been struggling to walk by faith. I want to understand. I want to fix things. I’d like some clarity. How about you? Do you want to understand everything that is happening now and in the future? Here are some great definitions of faith to encourage and strengthen our belief in God’s promises:

“Faith is a living, unshakeable confidence in God’s grace; it is so
certain, that someone would die a thousand times for it. This kind
of trust in and knowledge of God’s grace makes a person joyful,
confident, and happy with regard to God and all creatures. This is
what the Holy Spirit does by faith.” Martin Luther

“Faith does not operate in the realm of the possible. There is no glory
for God in that which is humanly possible. Faith begins where man’s
power ends.” George Mueller

“Faith is trust in the divine faithfulness.”Karl Barth

“Faith means that we trust that there is someone trustworthy to keep
us and preserve us in the face of danger. If we throw ourselves on
God, he will always catch us.” Michael Bird

“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Hebrews 11:1

These definitions remind me to center my life around what I believe about God more than just what my senses encounter. My feelings are fickle. My logic is limited. I’d guess that yours might be fairly similar to mine. When it comes to our marriages, children, finances, work, and everything else in our lives – Jesus calls us to walk through each day by faith rather than only what we can see.

Where is God asking you to walk by faith rather than what you can see today? Leave a comment and be praying for you!
