The Names of God

Today my seventh Bible study officially releases – The Names of God: His Character Revealed.

This has been a crazy season to write and publish a book. Change has become the new normal. People have been sick, divided, and frustrated with ever changing regulations.

In the midst of it all, I don’t know that there has ever been a more appropriate time to study God’s names. I say this because during difficult seasons it can be easy to create a god in our own image – one that makes sense to us in confusing moments- rather than remember that we were created in His image.

His names remind us that He is Sovereign – Elohim – the Mighty Creator. He sees us (and the difficulties we face with our children’s education, our unemployment situation, and our uncertainty and fear). His name is El Roi – the God who Sees.

While today’s climate is not the one in which I expected the Names of God would be released – it was no surprise to Yahweh, the Self-Existent One. I believe that knowing Him more during this time will help us to trust Him more. Author Jen Wilkin says that the heart cannot love what the mind doesn’t not know. My prayer for any who would undertake this six week study is that they would come to end not saying, “What a great study!” but “What an amazing God!”

Here are the details:

You can purchase the study in several different places:

The Proverbs 31 Ministries bookstore is carrying it! (I love supporting this incredible organization!)

If you want to stream the teaching videos, the best place to purchase is Cokesbury (they also carry the participant guide, DVD, and leader guide).

I’m always a fan of Amazon with their 2 – day shipping.

Right now I believe Christianbook has the best price on the participant book –

My prayer for you in studying God’s names is that you would grow closer to the Lord and find comfort and strength in His powerful name. Psalm 9:10 says, “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you.”

I also want to quickly mention an opportunity for any of you that might want to go a step further with the Names! Have you ever wondered if you were called to write? Ever wondered how an author actually writes a full Bible study and what publishers look for in selecting Bible studies to publish? This is your chance to find out!

I want to invite you to join me in a study of how I wrote The Names of God: His Character Revealed in partnership with Proverbs 31 Ministries and COMPEL Training in Direct Access: A Writers Book Club! This is not merely a discussion about my Bible study, but a study of how I wrote it. I want to share what I’ve learned about writing Bible studies and the publishing industry with aspiring writers who also have a message on their hearts as writers.

Each week for six weeks, join me and my editor, Sally Sharpe (the Senior Editor of Abingdon Women at Abingdon Press), in a private Facebook group, where we will chat about all things writing and publishing in real time so you can learn all the special techniques and tools we used to most effectively communicate the message God placed on my heart.

Thanks so much for prayerfully considering whether studying God’s names either on your own, in a Bible study group, or with me in the Direct Access Book Club might be right for you in this season!
